Locally Sourced Thatching Materials

It is not only in the restaurant business that the concept of using Locally Sourced Thatching Materials is on the increase.

The National Trust asked if we could thatch a small gazebo at Benthall Hall using locally sourced heather cut on the moors near Church Stretton in Shropshire.

This is about the 4th such heather job we have completed and it makes a change from thatching in straw or reed.  It is possible to source heather cut and baled by farmers and this is what we did when we thatched this 170sq metre roof in Northumberland.
