Sometimes, when insulation or felt is not required, it is nice to finish the underside of the thatch in a more decorative way – especially when the roof timbers themselves are pleasing on the eye as these details of a thatched gazebo illustrate.
It’s surprising what stripping a roof sometimes reveals… The thatch covering these ‘timbers’ was over 2 metres thick. The property was not listed!
