On April 1st about 50% of the roof of The White Lion at Barthomley in Cheshire was destroyed by fire – caused it is thought by a spark or heat passing through the chimney below the thatch line.

On July 23rd the pub re-opened after extensive repairs.  Master Thatchers had previously thatched the roof about 15 years ago and we were pleased to be able to start the roof renovations only about a month after the fire.  We re-thatched the roof in Combed Wheat Straw grown in  Somerset and because the property is Listed the conservation officer insisted that the new roof should be as near as possible identical to the old one.
