Mater Thatchers (North) Ltd have carried out the vast majority of thatching
work throughout England and below are just a few highlights.
In Cumbria we have re-thatched a house at Ireleth Brownear near Barrow-In
–Furness and a summerhouse on the banks of Lake Windermere.
In the North East we have thatched a new build at Morpeth and worked for
the Ford and Etal Estate. It was in Northumberland that we carried out the
thatching of a 160sq metre roof in Heather and further North we have undertaken
various re-thatching and re ridging jobs in the two Yetholm villages.
The town of Hartlepool is not famous for its thatching and so the building
of a pub with a 300sq metre thatched roof attracted a lot of attention as
did the three new build properties we thatched near York and two near Hull.
At Rotherham we laid nearly 9000 bundles of Water Reed on an 11th century
barn and near Lincoln thatched 5 new houses on a new development of over
100 houses. New work has also been done in Derby and Leicester (4 houses).
In Norfolk one of the County’s largest thatched roofs had a makeover
which consisted of re-thatching and re-ridging work. In Kent we re-thatched
the County’s oldest thatched building.
In Shropshire and Lancashire we have worked for The National Trust. There
are only a handful of Counties that we have not worked in and our work can
be seen in places such as Leominster, Stratford, Cambridge, Milton Keynes,
Peterborough, Melton Mowbray to mention just a few.
